By the end of the game, though, you’ll be swimming in resources if you’ve been using your bot(s) properly and regularly. You won’t get one of these bots until several hours into the game, and they’re only useful if you search for a specific area in each level to deploy them. However, you can also use a scavenger bot to go out and find resources for you. You’ll need to buy at least a few packs to really make a dent in any major weapon or suit purchases. You can buy a basic resource pack ($1), Ultra pack ($2), or Epic pack ($3). The microtransactions revolve around earning resources for weapon crafting. Attachment modules add all types of unique effects to the gun, including elemental damage, increased ammo, automatic reloads, and more.Īs you might have heard, Dead Space 3 features microtransactions because, obviously, all of the console gamers who played the first two games want to spend more money on top of their $60 retail purchases. And finally, each gun has two attachment slots. The type of frame you built your gun on will determine how many circuits are available (up to eight max). Then you can add circuits to increase or decrease a weapon’s stats (damage, reload speed, clip size, firing rate). Likewise, you can turn a Military Engine into one of several assault rifle, sniper, or shotgun variations. For instance, a Pneumatic Torch engine will become a flamethrower with a Default Tip, and a Cryogenic Torch with a Precision Tip. Weapons can have up to two engines attached (so two guns in one), and then the type of tip you combine with that tool will determine its effect. You’ll need resources, which are found on dead enemies, in containers and loot chests, and scattered around levels to craft weapons (and upgrade your suit). Ubisoft-published Assassin's Creed 3 included a similar system for that game's multiplayer.Dead Space 3 is less survival-horror and more dungeon-loot crawl, which coincides with an all-new weapon crafting system. The payment system popped up last year in fellow EA-published title Mass Effect 3, too, allowing you to quickly buy reinforcement packs for the game's multiplayer portion. "ĭead Space 3 is the first game in the series to include micro-transactions. "There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game. "No you can't!" Khoury replied at the suggestion I'd be able to splurge my money as soon as possible in exchange for the game's biggest gun. Khoury was unable to say how much the micro-transactions would cost, but she referred to several different packs of in-game currency being available, priced varying amounts.īut even with a bank balance full of money, developer Visceral Games has made sure you can't boost your way to the best weapons at the very beginning of the game. "You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace," Dead Space 3 associate producer Yara Khoury explained to Eurogamer. ![]() These resources (materials, scrap parts and the like) can be picked up by the player, picked up by scavenger bots you send out, or alternatively bought through a quick purchase from the in-game store. The message pops up when you don't have enough resources to piece together the beefy new weapon you're after. We spotted mention of "downloadable content" during a recent hands-on play session with the game. Dead Space 3 includes micro-transactions as part of its weapon crafting system, Eurogamer can reveal.
